Our team at Bathrooms of Charleston recently did a tub to shower conversion in Summerville for a couple and their elderly father. They wanted to have their tub replaced with an accessible walk-in shower. In addition to this we helped coordinate with the VA to ensure that as a military family they were able to receive funding from the VA for the shower conversion.
The existing bathroom had an old fiberglass tub insert. The homeowners, needed a safer option for their elderly father, as he could not safely get in and out of the tub.
We removed the existing tub, and installed a new solid surface shower with a low, barrier free threshold, and a slip resistant shower base. We also replaced the window in the tub area with a smaller transom window that offers more privacy. We installed ADA friendly shower fixtures with easy to grasp handles, grab bars throughout the shower, and a fold down teak bench seat in the shower. Additionally we repaired the drywall where there were holes in the wall after the owner had fallen.
