Our team completed a shower conversion in West Ashley, SC for our new clients, this local family, who decided to update their home with a modern walk-in shower system. This project replaced an older, underused bathtub with an accessible shower space designed for daily convenience and safety. Tub conversions represent one of several bathroom solutions we deliver across Charleston County, alongside vanity installations, full renovations, and replacement bathtubs. The client wanted a cleaner layout that eliminated the physical barrier of high tub walls while minimizing the time needed for upkeep.
Preparing Framing and Plumbing for the Shower Conversion in West Ashley, SC
A proper shower conversion in West Ashley, SC begins with thorough structural preparation behind the walls and underneath the floor. Our in-house crew removed the original tub unit, drywall, and surrounding materials down to the bare wooden framing. To create a stable base for the shower pan, our technicians installed fresh oriented strand board across the subfloor, creating a level foundation. We installed solid horizontal wood blocking between the wall studs to provide anchor support for future grab bars and heavy glass door assemblies. Our crew also updated the rough plumbing by connecting red and blue cross-linked polyethylene supply lines to a pressure-balanced mixing valve. New insulation was fitted between the studs to help manage sound and maintain proper temperature control.
Samuel Mueller Solid Surface Wall Surrounds and Glass Enclosure
For the interior wall surfaces, we installed bright white solid surface panels manufactured by Samuel Mueller. These non-porous panels provide a smooth appearance without the demanding upkeep associated with traditional tile joints. Because the material has no grout lines, it resists moisture penetration and soap scum accumulation. Our grout-free wall installation guarantees a leak-free enclosure that wipes clean with minimal effort. To enclose the shower, we installed a frameless-style sliding glass door system featuring polished chrome hardware. The smooth overhead rollers glide easily along the upper rail, creating an open sightline that makes the entire bathroom feel larger.
Dual Shower Fixtures and Practical Accessibility Features
This family requested features that combine everyday flexibility with personal comfort. We installed dual chrome shower fixtures, pairing a fixed showerhead with an adjustable handheld wand connected to a flexible hose. A single-handle chrome control valve allows for smooth water temperature adjustments, while a matching diverter directs water flow between the two heads. To keep bathing essentials organized, we built a recessed solid surface storage niche directly into the wall paneling, preserving standing room inside the enclosure. Our team also mounted a sturdy polished chrome grab bar directly into the reinforced wall framing, giving the client reliable physical support when entering and exiting the shower.
